FA VUT Brno / ZS 2012 :
STRUGGLE FOR SPACE / ARCHITECTURE AS A SOCIAL PRACTICE

This lecture series will attempt to portray architecture and urban development processes as inherently political matters and the architect as a figure without claims to innocence in relation to power. After modernity lost its significance as a social project, postmodernity emerged with its plurality and autonomy - thus, social ambiguity. Today we have once again reached a time when architects are renewing their professional interest in architecture as a social practice.

The lecture series will address questions such as:
Is there innocent architecture?
What is at stake today in the production of the city?
What is the role of the architect in negotiating with the public sphere?
