The Czech version of Jindřich Vybíral's book Leopold Bauer. Heretic of Modern Architecture was published in co-edition with the Academia Publishing House by UMPRUM in 2015.
In 2018, this very successful and award-winning publication was released in German by Birkhäuser.
Leopold Bauer (*1872 – †1938) was one of the leading representatives of modern architecture in the Habsburg Monarchy around 1900. His earliest architectural realization, the Reissig Villa in Brno, has been described as the first modern house in the Austrian Monarchy. Later, however, Bauer changed his avant-garde standpoint and leaned towards a new historicism. The Austrian National Bank in Vienna, his main work, is designed in a neoclassical style.
Prof. Jindřich Vybíral will present this new book on Tuesday at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague. The introductory speech for the presentation will be delivered by the rector of the AAAD in Prague, Professor Jindřich Smetana, together with the General Director of the National Heritage Institute, Naděžda Goryczková.
