Leopold Bauer

The 29th session of the lecture series Printed Architecture at the Jablonec bookstore Serius will present on Friday, November 20, 2015, at 6:30 PM architectural historian Professor Jindřich Vybíral, who will focus on the monumental monograph of architect Leopold Bauer.

Leopold Bauer was one of the leading figures of modern architecture in Central Europe around 1900. He was regarded as the creator of the first modern house in the Habsburg monarchy and the author of the first philosophical-theoretical reflection on modern architecture in this region. However, he later renounced his initial positions and shifted to the stance of new historicism.

The monographic treatment of his architectural and design work is based on the study of Bauer's extensive written legacy in the Vienna Albertina and systematic field research of the architect's realizations. The comprehensive monograph (588 pages) was published by Academia and the University of Applied Arts.
