Radovan Lipus: Hidden Tracks in Slovenia
February 16, 2012 at 6:00 PM
The premiere lecture by the famous Czech director, following the filming of 4 new episodes of the documentary series by Czech Television, which took place in September 2011 in the Slovenian cities of Maribor, Ljubljana, Cerklje, Kranj, and Celje. The theme of the evening will particularly focus on two rightly overlooked figures of architects and builders, Jan Vladimír Hráský (1857 Babule (Halič) – 1939 Prague) and Max Czeike (1879 Nový Jičín – 1945 Maribor). Both of these creators left behind numerous remarkable and still functional buildings in the small but beautiful country beneath Triglav. In the case of the versatile J. V. Hráský, we can at least mention the representative buildings of the National House in Celje, the Palace of the Provincial Government, or the Opera House in Ljubljana. The life and career of the Nový Jičín native Max Czeike were tied for several decades primarily to Slovenia's second-largest city, Maribor. Here, we can still admire, aside from his own villa and the villa of JUDr. Alois Juvan, particularly the modifications and buildings in the People's Garden or the noble design of the Franciscan Cemetery Pobrežje. However, the solitary Slovenian realizations of significant architects such as Pavel Janák, Karel Řepa, František Krásný, or Stanko Bloudka will also be remembered.
