Role of Architecture: Accompanying Lecture to the Exhibition at GJF

The current pandemic has presented us with a multitude of societal questions and will likely accelerate changes that would have occurred gradually, albeit more slowly. What will be the role of architecture in this? In the question of the engagement of architecture in addressing broader societal problems, there are two poles of opinion. One argues that architecture lacks the means to influence complex social issues, or even that in today's world it can only be non-referential or auto-referential. The other believes that it can actively engage in social, environmental, societal, and other current issues. How do we perceive this question today? And what tools does architecture truly have at its disposal?
