We invite you to a presentation by architectural historian Spyros Papapetros at VIPER Gallery on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 7:00 PM. Spyros Papapetros will present the book Retracing the Expanded Field: Encounters between Art and Architecture (co-editor Julian Rose, published by MIT Press in 2014), which is based on the symposium of the same name held at the Princeton University School of Architecture in 2007. The aim was to revise the canonical text by Rosalind Krauss, "Sculpture in the Expanded Field" from 1979, and the intersections of architecture and art over the past 30 years.
Spyros Papapetros is an art and architecture historian and theorist at the Princeton University School of Architecture, where he co-directs the Program in Media and Modernity. His work focuses on the historiography of art and architecture, the intersections between architecture and visual arts, as well as the relationship of architecture, psychoanalysis, and the history of psychological aesthetics. More here.
The presentation is part of the exhibition "Black Mary" (Situation 3: Robert Smithson / Dan Graham) and also the kickoff for a series of lectures by foreign historians and theorists of architecture at the VIPER Gallery. The book will be available for purchase at the gallery.
We also recommend the lecture by S. Papapetros titled World Ornament, which he will give on Wednesday, June 8, at 3:30 PM at the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
