Galerie VI PER invites all interested parties to a lecture and discussion that are part of the exhibition program Pro/Měna Karlín.
During the evening, two short presentations will be given, followed by a discussion panel. The purpose is to open a discussion on the use of terms like genius loci by contemporary developers, for whom the reference to the industrial district often ends with the preservation of a chimney or a fragment of the facade.
What does the term genius loci mean according to Norberg-Schulz? What impact does language have in creating possible urban tricks and spectacle? How do aesthetic and other categories of experience reflect in language, and potentially also purposefully translate into it?
The discussion will be led by Eliška Málková and Lynda Zein, curators of the Pro/Měna Karlín exhibition.

Guests:
Ana Carreño Fernández-Travanco studied architecture at the Polytechnic University in Madrid, where she is currently a doctoral student. She has collaborated with studios in Denmark and Spain on projects involving sustainability and regeneration. She is currently engaged in architecture and photography, research, and collaboration on several digital publications. The presentation will be online.

Petr Gibas studied urban geography at University College London and received a PhD in anthropology from the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University. He has dealt with post-socialist (post)industrial landscapes, their aesthetics and aestheticization. He focuses on issues of home, housing, or the city and its planning and negotiation of urban spaces, particularly those associated with the experience of homeliness, as well as phenomenological geography and other areas.

The event is part of the Galerie VI PER program for 2020 within the Future Architecture Platform.
