Gallery VI cordially invites you on April 9, 2019, at 7:00 PM to a lecture titled More Matter with Less Art.

Today, in an age of excessive amounts of available information (for example, on the internet), there is a need for formats that can clearly present vast amounts of information and subsequently allow for their management. A good example of such a format is an atlas. Studio Joost Grootens explores the format of the atlas in his work, its significance in the digital age, and its application in the publication of maps and non-cartographic objects.

Joost Grootens is a graphic designer, researcher, and educator. His studio SJG designs books, maps, typefaces, spatial installations, and digital information environments for publishers such as Lars Müller Publishers, nai010 publishers, Park Books, and Phaidon Press; educational and research institutions like ETH Zurich, the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore, KADK in Copenhagen, or TU Delft; and museums such as the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum Rotterdam, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven. A monograph on the work of SJG titled I swear I use no art at all was published by 010 Publishers in 2010. Joost Grootens leads the Master's program in Information Design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, teaches mapping at KADK in Copenhagen, and is a professor of information architecture at ISIA Urbino. Since 2015, Joost Grootens has been a PhD candidate at Leiden University.
