Smiljan Radić is an architect by soul and heart, but he is also close to art. He enjoys oscillating between the worlds of architecture and art. And it’s not just because his life partner is sculptor Marcela Correa, with whom he has collaborated on many projects. It simply feels natural to him, just like reading stories, because they are also part of the history of architecture, and he wants to be their storyteller. Smiljan Radić is one of the most important figures in Chilean architecture, which has experienced a great boom in recent years. He gained attention at the 12th Architecture Biennale in 2011 and three years later when he became the author of the 14th summer pavilion for the Serpentine Gallery. He has also succeeded in many competitions, such as the design of a telecommunication tower in Santiago (2014) and the regional theater building in the city of Concepción, which opened its doors to its first visitors exactly one year ago.
