They founded a studio and designed a pub, for which they received the Best Pub of the Year Award in 1999. This showed architects Stephen Bates and Jonathan Sergison the direction in which they focused on public buildings. Now, their studio, called Sergison Bates, includes a team of 35 members working on large urban projects across Europe. These include the transformation of the former Citroën car factory in the heart of Brussels into the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. However, they also focus on exploring various housing models to find relevant solutions for the changing social demographics of our time. In addition to some extensive residential projects in Brussels, Paris, Zurich, Antwerp, and Munich, they recently completed a care campus in Flanders, which also includes the provision of specialized care for residents with early-onset dementia. Stephen Bates will speak about the philosophy of their architecture at the Urban Talks lecture titled Figures, Doors and Passages.
The event will be streamed on the website praha.camp and on Facebook.
