Members of the Council of Architects' Presentation at TUL in Liberec

On Monday, April 23, 2018, at 6:00 PM, there will be a presentation of the members of the renewed Council of Architects in Liberec in the Technical University of Liberec, building G, hall 112.
The role of the Council of Architects is primarily to assess the submitted proposals in terms of the context of the city, architectural quality, and public interest. It acts as an advisory body to the mayor and the Department of the Chief Architect. It provides an independent expert perspective on plans and projects that influence and contribute to the image of the city. The Council can also initiate identifying problem areas or initiate the creation of an architectural competition. Similar councils operate in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. Foreign members of the Council have also worked here - specifically in Salzburg and Hamburg. However, the Council also faces another quite challenging task. In approximately 6 months, it must gain support not only from current but also future councilors, as well as the favor of the residents of Liberec.
For this reason, it would like to introduce the foreign members of the Council, their opinions, and their approach to city planning in a public lecture. It will also include a brief introduction of the other members of the Council and a subsequent discussion.
So who are the architects helping to decide on major projects in Liberec? Come and meet them.

Peter Gero, Hamburg
An architect and urban planner originally from Slovakia. He worked for 12 years as the director of planning and construction of central districts in Hamburg. He is the expert guarantor of the project "You Are Trenčín" (developing the spatial plan for the central zone of the city). In his lecture, he will talk about the construction of HafenCity in Hamburg, the basic principles of urban planning, and the issues of cities affected by the departure of part of the population or widespread devastation of territories, similar to Liberec.

Christoph Braumann, Salzburg

An architect dealing with spatial planning and its history and author of many publications and articles. From 1991 to 2015, he headed the "Regional Planning and Geographic Information System" department in Salzburg. The principles of planning in Salzburg will be the main topic of his lecture.
Other speakers will include: Josef Smutný, Martin Kloda, Jakub Cígler, Jana Medlíková, and Petr Kincl. The lectures will also include a short discussion.
You are cordially invited to the lecture by the mayor of Liberec, Tibor Batthyány, and the rector of the Technical University of Liberec, doc. RNDr. Miroslav Brzezina, CSc.
