Apartment with a view of the Vltava

A new apartment with an area of 160 m² was created in an old development, in a building that underwent a complete renovation in Prague's Smíchov. The apartment is unique for its beautiful view of the Vltava River and unusually high ceilings. The investor's brief was: to create a representative space with two bedrooms for occasional living. The task was taken on by the interior studio GIGA-Line in collaboration with the design store Monobrand.

The owner gave interior designer Zuzana Tomčíková from GIGA-Line free rein in choosing quality and original furnishings. When deciding on specific elements, quality and uniqueness always prevailed, allowing the interior designer to avoid compromises, for instance, due to budget limitations. This approach is apparent in the overall feel of the interior: thanks to the designer's comprehensive approach to color and material selection, the apartment exudes harmony, and it is clear that attention was paid to even the smallest details. Therefore, you will find unique design electrical elements that function in perfect harmony with the overall atmosphere of the apartment, lighting, furniture, and furniture hardware—all from the portfolio of the design store Monobrand.

Unique Interior Accessories

The investor himself came up with several ideas during the interior design process, thus collaborating partially with Zuzana Tomčíková on its creation. In this "masculine" apartment, high-quality timeless materials and muted shades of predominantly cool colors were used. Their combination with natural wood endowed the interior with both dynamism and coziness. The choice of materials, colors, and finishes of all interior elements elevated the space to new, qualitatively higher dimensions. Above the dining table, you will find handmade light fixtures from KAIA Lighting, in the hallway and living room suspension lighting from Atelier Areti, and also handmade fixtures from Giopato & Coombes in the bedroom. The door hardware and furniture handles are from the workshop of Bäccman & Berglund.

Switches Made of Metal, Leather, and Concrete

Throughout the apartment, rotary retro switches berker berie 1930 Softtouch with a velvety matte finish were used. These unique switches come from the custom manufacturing program Hager Manufaktura, which focuses on solutions for individual customer requirements regarding the appearance and form of residential switches. All production is custom, allowing for nearly any customer request, whether related to unconventional materials or non-standard surface finishes for the frames. Within the Hager Manufaktura program, it is possible to have switches made from precious metals, denim, leather, concrete, or neon acrylic and even cover them with Swarovski crystals. A common request is to print frames of switches with icons, pictograms, or short texts that facilitate light control for guests in hotel rooms, for example. "In this residential masculine interior, switches from the berker series 1930 were used, but with a specific surface finish that gave the round switches made of black Bakelite a velvety smooth surface. Thus, the switches not only serve as a feast for the eyes in the interior, but their touch during everyday use also provides an interesting experience," explains the choice of switches Thomas Grund, director of Hager Electro in the Czech Republic.

The realization of the interior was nominated for the Interior of the Year competition in the category Private Interior – Renovation. It advanced to the final selection in its category.
