The future (of cities) is feminine: the most influential female voices in the world of architecture and urban design will meet in Prague at the sixth reSITE 2017 conference: In/visible City on the role of invisible structures for the future shape of cities, which will take place on June 22-23 at Forum Karlín in Prague. This two-day event emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue and strengthening trust between municipal authorities, architects, and the private sector, without whose synergy successful and sustainable city development cannot exist. The sixth edition of the conference will focus on both invisible and tangible infrastructures and their impact on architecture, urban development, and economic opportunities. A crucial topic for Prague, which is facing the metro line D project and the redevelopment of several brownfields, as well as for Ostrava, Brno, and smaller cities. Public events will also be held from June 21 to 24.
Who we will meet at reSITE
After two years of efforts, architect Kazuyo Sejima, a Pritzker Prize holder from the SANAA studio, accepted the invitation. She will present her timeless and almost invisible architecture that pushes the limits of the possible, whether it's cultural institutions or transportation terminals. Caroline Bos from Amsterdam's UNStudio will amaze us with transportation hub projects and bring inspiration for the redevelopment of one of Prague's districts. The admired landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson will share her brilliant green infrastructure projects. Leni Schwendinger, a world leader in lighting design and founder of NightSeeing™, will present her concept in Prague for the first time. Spanish architect Enric Battle from Battle i Roig will showcase successful landfill reclamations and technical infrastructure seamlessly integrated into the landscape, and the chief architect Marlena Happach will come from Warsaw. The program will include presentations by architect and urbanist Teddy Cruz with Fonna Forman, who have long studied the impacts of the border wall between San Diego and Tijuana on communities, architecture, the economy, and urban development. One of the main lectures will be given by Jean-Louis Missika, the Deputy Mayor of Paris. On the second day of the conference, a series of workshops will take place, including the planning intervention game Just Add People with Gilly Karjevsky, a workshop on the potential of the HolKa ferry "Luxury for All" with experts and performers in one of Berlin's ZK/U, as well as data visualization with Studio Tekja, which is also represented in the Big Bang Data exhibition at DOX.
reSITE NightSeeing in Prague
For the first time, NightSeeing™, a concept by lighting designer Leni Schwendinger, will take place in Prague. It raises awareness of the role of light and shadow in cities and generally about public spaces after dark. Through a guided walk, the designer will convey theoretical insights in an accessible way for the broadest audience and professionals alike. NightSeeing is a trademark of Leni Schwendinger. The number of places will be very limited, so register at reSITE.org.
Something extra for participants
