While recycling plastics was previously perceived as more of an experiment, the Plastic guys from Brno have turned it into a prestigious architectural material. The successful implementation of the experimental hub Škoda Auto in Prague shows that Mínus panels are not just a sustainable addition but a fully functional element of modern workspace design. Moreover, the demands of similarly large projects recently led the brand to another technological milestone – the launch of production of the largest recycled panels in the world.
Experimental Ecosystem of the Future
In Prague's Vysočany district, a hybrid working environment has emerged that defines a new era of offices. Covering an area of 856 m², divided into eight functional zones, the studio KOMPLITS designed an open ecosystem. This setup supports not just rigid desk work, but also a natural alternation of activities – from deep concentration to informal meetings. The entire space is additionally structured by 700 plants, which create a natural microclimate within biophilic design.
In the production of the interior, 4.75 tons of composite with a high proportion of recycled material were processed, demonstrating that sustainability here is not just a worn ESG narrative, but a logical and necessary direction for the development of contemporary architecture.
Balanced Synergy of 3D Printing and Recycled Material
A key element of the design is large-format 3D printing, realized over an area of 180 m² by the company Fungamental. In this hi-tech environment, Mínus panels entered as a strategic material partner. Their use was not merely a decorative gesture, but a well-considered step to complement the 3D printed elements. The recycled boards bring a different texture, color depth, and tactile quality to the interior, resulting in a perfectly balanced dialogue between digital manufacturing and practical everyday operations.
Durability for the Most Exposed Areas
Since innovative materials must withstand real loads, Mínus panels were applied to the most frequented spots. They form bar counters and custom tables in lounge areas, where they are constantly in view and in direct contact with people. The central point of the realization became the very entrance lounge area, where recycled plastic naturally connects to the bar base and creates a vibrant center of the entire space.
A New Milestone: Giga Panels from Kuřim
Experience from similar implementations for market leaders confirmed architects' demand for solid surfaces with minimal joints. This shift towards monumental scale is now a reality. Plastic guys recently successfully completed the approval of a new production hall in Kuřim and fully launched a unique line that produces panels measuring 3000 × 1400 mm. They now have the technology capable of producing the largest panels made from recycled plastic in the world under one roof.
Thanks to this format, the material becomes a partner for extensive infrastructural projects and monolithic solitary elements. The aesthetic level of the recycled material thus rises to that of natural stone, but with an incomparably lower ecological footprint.
TIP FOR ARCHITECTS: Mínus panels operate on the principle of true circularity. If an element in the interior reaches the end of its life after years, it can be regrinded and transformed into a new panel. Sustainability here is a physically closed process.
A Wide Range of Uses: From Deep Regeneration to Education
Although large office complexes are flagship projects, the Mínus material demonstrates its versatility in other segments
Deep-care Center Inscape Prague: Here, the warm illumination and visual clarity of the Champagne texture stand out in ambient lighting and work surfaces.
Education: Recent implementations in Czech schools show that recycled material is a safe and educational element that teaches the new generation to perceive waste as a valuable resource.
FeaturedApp Offices: Modern tech companies use panels to express their identity - an innovative material for an innovative business.
