Showroom LD Seating in London: Czech furniture against the backdrop of Victorian architecture

The company LD Seating, a leading Czech manufacturer of seating, has opened its first showroom in London, right in the heart of the Clerkenwell district – one of the most significant global centers of architecture and design. The showroom is part of the Atelier Bohemia project, which brings Czech brands together under one roof in London.

History and Architectural Solution

The building at 3 Clerkenwell Road was designed in the second half of the 19th century by Thomas Chatfield Clarke. Architects from the CHYBIK + KRISTOF studio uncovered the original steel columns during the reconstruction, which underscore the industrial character of the building, and inserted a spiral staircase. The staircase, with its shape, echoes the rounded forms of the columns and has become a dominant feature of the interior.

The architects worked throughout the space with the contrast of industrial materials and modern elements – exposed structures are complemented by oak veneer, cement screed with pigment on the floors, walls, and a bar made of glass blocks, as well as integrated furniture.

Three Floors of Inspiration

The showroom is laid out over three floors, each serving a different purpose. The ground floor is the main presentation space, where visitors can find displayed products from LD Seating. Currently, they can also see a prototype of the new Terra armchair, which the company plans to launch next year.

In the basement, visitors can try out popular lounge seating, and it also functions as a coworking space – a place for work and informal meetings. On the upper floor is the main meeting room – ideal for business negotiations.

An important part of the project is also the CzechTrade agency, which operates the Design Center CzechTrade London in the spaces of Atelier Bohemia. Its goal is to support Czech companies in the field of interior design and modern technologies on the British market - not only through product presentations but also with practical services such as partner searches, support during business negotiations, and communication with local authorities.

A Place for Inspiration and Collaboration

Partners of LD Seating, architects, and designers can look forward to regular events, discussions, and presentations of new products that will be held in the showroom spaces. Thus, the showroom is not just a place for showcasing products, but also a space for sharing experiences and inspiration within the design community.

"We have been operating in the British market for over ten years, but having our own showroom is a crucial step for us. Architects and designers can experience our products in an authentic environment, while new contacts and projects are created," says Jakub Huráb, managing director of LD Seating.

The showroom is open from Monday to Thursday. Individual visits can be arranged through the company's business partner for the British market, Andy Stewart, at the email [email protected] or by phone +44 1382 413 103.
