Brno - After a year of work, the new headquarters of the Center for Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery (CKTCH) being built on the premises of the University Hospital Brno has completed the monoliths of two underground floors and four above-ground levels. Workers have also finished the retention tank and outdoor sewage system. Currently, drywall installers and electricians are also working there, spokesperson Jiří Erlebach told ČTK today.
"Workers are building drywall partitions in the first and second above-ground floors. At the same time, they are preparing the air duct system. Upcoming tasks will include the installation of window frames and preparation of the facade," Erlebach stated.
Workers will be on-site for another year. According to Erlebach, the construction site has a separate entrance and exit, and the aim is to disrupt hospital operations as little as possible. The costs amount to 2.4 billion Czech crowns, excluding technical equipment, medical technology, or information technologies.
The director of CKTCH became Vlastimil Vajdák, head of the University Hospital at St. Anna in Brno, this spring. He is currently focusing primarily on completing the construction. Subsequently, he will work on increasing the center's performance, seeing potential in expanding the liver transplantation program. The center performs over 1,000 heart surgeries and about 130 life-saving organ transplants each year, including hearts, livers, and kidneys.
In an interview with ČTK, Vajdák previously mentioned that the move to the new headquarters from the St. Anne's hospital, where the center operates in rented premises, will likely require a short-term shutdown.
