Most – The sculpture by artist Josef Klimeš in the Most park Střed has lost one of its parts. The cause of its damage is material degradation. The city hall has secured the site and wants to ensure an assessment of its condition and the possibility of repair. ČTK was informed about this by the city spokesperson Klára Vydrová.
The well-known work in Most is nicknamed by locals as flying saucer, UFO, or breast. A part became detached spontaneously and fell to the ground on Thursday. "The moment was captured by the city's camera system, which confirmed that at the time of the fall, no one was near the artwork," Vydrová stated.
The broken part, however, is not an original component of the sculpture. "It was added in 2014 when this part of the artwork was missing, and it was necessary to restore it to make the UFO whole again," the spokesperson pointed out. Three years ago, the city had the sculpture restored by conservators. "At that time, it was cleaned, scratches were repaired, and the joint was finished," Vydrová added.
Near Barrandovský Bridge in Prague, another sculpture from Klimeš's workshop – Balance – recently collapsed. The capital city will build a replica of it.
