Tábor – The estimated costs for the reconstruction of the outdoor swimming pool in Tábor and the nearby sports hall amount to more than 250 million crowns. The city aims to renovate both sports facilities simultaneously. The work could begin next year. This was stated to journalists today by representatives of the city leadership.
"The estimated amount for the adjustment of the water park is 92 million crowns and for the hall it is 162 million crowns. But we expect to manage to bid for the project at a lower amount," said Deputy Mayor Lenka Horejsková (Together for Tábor).
The Eden sports hall on Kvapilova Street dates back to 1979. Horejsková added that it has already several deficiencies. "It is in poor technical condition, for example, water leaks into the locker rooms. The hall is energy-intensive, yet it is often fully booked," she stated.
The project anticipates not only the modernization of the hall but also an extension. A court for ball sports will be created there, along with separate facilities for other activities. For instance, sports gymnasts, who currently have no sports facility in the city, could train there.
The reconstruction of the outdoor water park includes changes to the swimming pool. Its basin is to be made of stainless steel. The pool is also expected to have dimensions suitable for water polo matches. "In addition, we plan to create attractions for various age categories in the project. There will be a paddling pool for children, or a whirlpool and a pool with jets, which would be used more by seniors," stated Horejsková.
The pool and the sports hall are located on Kvapilova Street. Within several hundred meters, there are additional sports facilities. These include a football stadium, an athletic stadium, and another hall for ball sports. The city plans to use a grant from the South Bohemia Region for the reconstruction of both sports facilities, which has promised to release 50 million crowns from the fund for sports projects.
