Nejdek – In Nejdek, Karlovy Vary region, the reconstruction of the first stage building of the Elementary School on Karl IV Square continues. The completion of repairs costing more than 45 million crowns is planned for the autumn, so at the beginning of the next school year, the youngest students will still be in temporary accommodation in the second stage building. This was reported by the deputy mayor Pavlína Schwarzová (VOK).

Repairs began a year ago. This year's first graders started and today also finish their first school year in temporary classrooms. The reconstruction is planned to be completed by the end of September. According to Schwarzová, however, it is uncertain how long the occupancy permit process will take, how long it will take to furnish the rooms with furniture and other equipment, and when exactly the children will be able to move from the temporary classes to their classrooms.

"The project includes complete reconstruction of the school's interiors, i.e., renovation of the internal spaces, including the replacement of flooring, repair of plaster, and new painting. The work also includes a complete renewal of the electrical, heating, water, and sewage systems, including the replacement of end components, i.e., lighting fixtures, radiators, and sanitary equipment," described the deputy mayor the modernization of the school building. There will be no elevator in the building, but accessibility is ensured by a stairlift.

A significant part of the construction modifications is also the roof reconstruction. The project was supported by the European Operational Program Just Transformation, with a grant of approximately 37 million crowns. The rest of the costs are covered by the city from its budget. Additional work has increased the price by approximately 900,000 crowns compared to the amount that emerged from the tender, said Schwarzová.

Three years ago, the city also completely renovated the second stage building. At that time, the modernization included the construction of attic classrooms and a staff room, as well as the renovation of gymnasiums, costing 94 million crowns.

About 7,700 residents live in Nejdk. The city operates four kindergartens, two elementary schools, and a school of arts.
