In Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the completion of the Cultural Center started for about 400 million CZK

Rožnov pod Radhoštěm – The construction of the Cultural Center began today in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the Vsetín region. According to the city leadership and the contractor Taros Nova, this energy-efficient wooden structure will be the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic, with a large hall that will have a capacity of 600 standing places. The Cultural Center is the largest investment in the city in recent years, with the local government paying nearly 279 million crowns for the construction, having received an EU grant of 120 million crowns for it. The total cost, including interior furnishings, will be about 400 million crowns, said Mayor Jan Kučera (Independent Rožnov residents) today to ČTK.

"The price is not yet final, the individual components related to the furnishings are being clarified," the mayor stated. According to him, the Cultural Center will become the new heart of Rožnov. "For concerts, theaters, films, and meetings of people of all generations. Culture has the power to connect and give the city a soul, so I wish all Rožnov residents that the Cultural Center will be a place for joy, inspiration, and shared experiences," said the mayor.

The rough construction is to be completed by January next year. "First, both social halls will be built, followed by the foyer and roofing of the entrance. This will combine a skeleton with a structure made of glued wooden panels. The last part will be a four-story section with facilities for performers and staff towards the school," stated Deputy Mayor Markéta Blinková (ODS). The construction is expected to be finished by the end of next year.

Prepared wooden parts will begin to be brought to the construction site. "The Cultural Center will not be built in the traditional way, brick by brick. Individual wooden elements, glued beams, and glued panels will be gradually assembled on site. Therefore, with the start of the school year, we should begin to see the building taking shape," said Marek Kuchta, the project manager from the Rožnov municipal office. The contracting company has nearly finished manufacturing the structure and will load it onto trucks. "The project uses about 1200 cubic meters of glued wood. More than 100 tons of steel connectors and other auxiliary structures necessary for the construction of such a building are used here," said Aleš Gebauer, the production director of the company.

The center was started in the spring of 2022 by the Zlín construction company Navláčil, but it disagreed with the city leadership over a change of subcontractor for the wooden structure. It also pointed out deficiencies in the project documentation and demanded a higher price for the main construction. Ultimately, the company withdrew from the contract, and the city then agreed to terminate the contract with it. The municipality then commissioned assessments of the project documentation, which revealed deficiencies. The city agreed with the project author that the author’s supervision would pass to another architect, and last summer it approved the announcement of a public tender for the construction of the center. Companies had access to the project documentation, which they were to review and complete. Taros Nova was the only bidder. The documentation was then modified, and the capacity of the large hall was increased.
