Špindlerův Mlýn - The reconstruction of the historically protected White Bridge, which was in a state of disrepair, has begun in the center of Špindlerův Mlýn. It is expected to be completed in the autumn, during the construction period the bridge will be closed, representatives of the city council informed ČTK. The reconstruction of the more than 100-year-old bridge is part of a larger Czech-Polish project totaling 19.8 million crowns. More than 9.3 million crowns will go toward the actual repair of the bridge, prices are excluding value-added tax. The repair will be supported by funds from the Interreg grant program.
According to the city council, the bridge repair is the largest investment for this year for the thousand-inhabitant town. Builders will focus, for example, on the renewal of the load-bearing structure and concrete surfaces. The concrete of the bridge arches will once again be white, and the appearance of the bridge will not change. The bridge is part of a pedestrian zone and will continue to serve only pedestrians after the repairs. It is almost 28 meters long and five meters wide.
Other significant investments of the city this year include the repair of the bridge over the Red Stream and the construction of a path along the Elbe between parking lots P1 and Hromovka.
The estimated investment for the repair of the bridge over the Red Stream on the road to Špindlerův Bouda is six to eight million crowns excluding VAT, the city will finance the reconstruction from its own sources. The planned timeline for the work is in the second half of the year, with the start expected in September.
The construction of a path for pedestrians and cyclists, and in winter for skiers along the Elbe is expected to cost nine million crowns excluding VAT, the city council is counting on a grant from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI). The construction is scheduled for June to September. The city council is also planning smaller investments in road repairs this year.
In the center of the resort, a private investor plans to transform a neglected area into a new square with services, accommodation capacities, and parking. The appearance of the square in the place where the Špindlerovská Inn stood until 2022 will emerge from an architectural competition. According to the city council, it will be a key project for the future of the center.
