Vít Branda

On October 24, 2009, at the age of 46, Vítek Branda tragically died after crashing his ultralight aircraft in the Czech Central Mountains.
Vítek Branda, until then less known in the Czech architectural scene, became recognized primarily as a regional architect in the Kadaň area, where he worked from the beginning of his professional career. His somewhat peripheral position suited his work; he sought and provided original solutions across a wide range of creations, from conceptual development visions at a broader territorial scale to the design of tea sets. A strong emphasis on the quality of execution in his projects was inherent to him, and his interest in the technological process of creating a work opened up possibilities for experimentation. He was the author of a number of implemented projects that were distinctly architectural, primarily single-family homes, but also a large number of modifications that enhance the monotonous public spaces of the city, which are orders of a more engineering-landscape character: calming traffic flows in the urban area, bike paths, revitalization of waterways, urban furniture design, etc. He applied a comprehensive perspective in his largest project to date, the revitalization of the urban waterfront of the Ohře River in Kadaň, known as the Maxipes Fík Embankment, where landscape architects and visual artists are equally part of the creative team alongside the architect. A certain highlight of this work, which is currently under implementation, became the opening of a unique suspended bike bridge from the rocky massif.
