Ústí nad Labem – The renovation of the seniors' home in the Ústí district of Krásné Březno will cost approximately 50 million crowns. The facade, roof will be new, and outdoor blinds will provide relief for clients during hot weather. The work is expected to last about 15 months and must be completed by the end of next year at the latest. This is a condition for a grant that amounts to 21.5 million crowns. City and social facility representatives told journalists this today.
The home consists of a complex of panel buildings in the Pod Vyhlídkou housing estate, built in 1988. In the past, the kitchen, laundry, and windows have been renovated. "We as a city deemed it important to renew the building. We connected with the management of the home and prepared a project for the complete reconstruction of this facility, which will include a number of energy savings," said the deputy mayor for social affairs, Tomáš Vlach (ANO). This will include, for example, insulation of the home’s exterior and roof.
The renovations will require restrictions for clients, their families, and the staff. The retirement home informs about changes on social media with a two-week notice. One of the requirements was for the construction company to maintain access to the garden for as long as possible, said the deputy director of the social facility, Ladislava Svatošová.
During hot weather, especially the top floor of the home heated up to more than 30 degrees Celsius. The home tried to alleviate the situation for clients and staff by purchasing fans and darkening the windows. "We changed the menu to include cooling foods," added Svatošová. The situation is expected to improve in the coming years with new roof insulation and the installation of outdoor blinds. The facility also wants to purchase them for the kitchen at its own expense.
Construction workers began in a fenced-off area where clients do not have access. Workers must first excavate the entire building, removing soil around the outer walls and foundations, said site manager Mirko Prokop. This is being done for the installation of insulation. After this initial phase, they will be able to build scaffolding and begin work on the actual facade.
