Come and explore the recently reconstructed historical waterworks complex, which represents a unique example of industrial architecture by Jan Kotěra. Please note that this tour is not suitable for individuals suffering from dizziness and for children.
Discover fascinating details that combine elements of modernity and geometric Art Nouveau, which will take you back to the history of the beginnings of Prague's water supply infrastructure. We will introduce you to the history of the waterworks, as well as its technological and architectural peculiarities. You will learn how the complex water supply system for Prague worked and why the waterworks is called Vršovická. Among other things, you will also learn more about the restoration of this cultural monument in recent years. You will climb to the top of the water tower, which reaches a height of 42 meters. You will also descend into the underground reservoir with its beautiful false vault and steel beams. And we will not skip the engine room. The Vršovická water tower has long been a significant landmark of the Prague district of Michle.
Please consider your physical abilities and any limits – this is an adrenaline experience when ascending the tower and descending into the reservoirs. Leave shoes with smooth soles and heels at home and bring athletic shoes. Also, adjust your clothing, as you will likely get dirty during the tour.
The guided tour will be led by Michal Šedivý. The proceeds from this event go to support the activities of the non-profit organization Open House Prague, z. ú.
