Prague will reconstruct the RC Tatra Smíchov complex, the work will cost 252.7 million CZK

Prague – Prague will renovate the sports complex of the Rugby Club Tatra Smíchov. The project will include new facilities, a covered stand for approximately 600 spectators, a field, gymnasiums, and changing rooms. The work, worth 252.7 million crowns including VAT, will be carried out by a consortium of companies Pohl and Aquasys, whose selection was approved by Prague’s city council today. The renovation aims to address the unsatisfactory technical condition of the complex and increase its capacity.

"There was basically no quality stadium in Prague that could compete with world standards. That is why we have developed a project to improve and renovate the stadium in Smíchov," said the councilor for education and sports Antonín Klecanda (STAN). The complex is intended not only for daily training but also for hosting domestic rugby competitions and tournaments. According to the city, the new stadium will enable the organization of events at a higher level.

The revitalization is expected to increase the complex's capacity and create conditions for further development of the club. The new covered stand will offer 556 seats instead of the current 300 and an additional 106 standing places. The city also expects that the club will be able to expand its membership base from the current 682 to about 850 members.

The revitalization will include, in addition to the new stand, a field with artificial turf, a gym, a weight room, and new facilities for athletes. The new training spaces are intended to relieve the main grass field and allow for year-round preparation.

The contract is awarded using the design and build method, so the chosen consortium will not only handle the construction itself but also prepare the project documentation and other project and engineering works.

The Smíchov amateur sports club is one of the largest and most successful rugby clubs in the Czech Republic. It has over 600 active members. Since the first half of the 1970s, it has been operating in the current complex, which was built by the club's members through self-help.
