The presentation will focus on his practice in the city of Yilan, which is a suburban area with agriculture and tourism industry. Architect Huang's practice is centered on small public architectural works. He will share his experiences with the challenges of public architecture.
Marek Sivák, MArch is an architect and facilitator, a specialist in public space, urbanism, participation, briefs, and concepts, founder of the Pěstuj prostor association and the Platform for Public Space with many years of experience from regular architectural practice. Seeking ways to change Plzeň and other municipalities and cities for the better. Activism? Grants? Contracts? Long-term partnerships? General architect? In 2012, as part of Plzeň – European Capital of Culture 2015, we launched the first year of the Open Call Pěstuj prostor, where people provided us with suggestions for small changes in public space for several years. We evaluated these together with city representatives and independent experts and tried to implement them together with the citizens. Now, ten years later, we are choosing a different path that offers other possibilities to influence the development of municipalities and cities.
Topic 2: Social Communication and Planning from the Government Perspective
Mr. Hsu, YEN-HSIN is the Deputy Minister of the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior. He was the Director of the Urban Development Department of Keelung City. Currently, he is planning national architecture and building regulations. How to encourage local communities. The presentation aims to share his experiences from the government side to revitalizing local society. It includes a debate with an architect, the local community, and the struggle of local self-government with the central government.
Ing. arch. Pavlína Suchá, Architects Without Borders, studied Architecture and Urbanism at CTU in Prague, and professionally focuses on spatial planning. Within the Architects Without Borders association, where she has been actively involved since 2020, she is particularly interested in the topic of socially excluded areas. Architects Without Borders brings together architects and designers interested in improving the quality of public space and increasing public interest in issues related to the social aspects of architecture, especially in disadvantaged areas and endangered communities. Since 2021, we have had the opportunity to collaborate with the community in an excluded locality in Chanov, where we strive to enhance public spaces and involve local residents in its creation. Our goal is to support the engagement of local residents and create a space for dialogue with the city.
