Vysoký Chlumec – Pottery spinning on a wheel, wire weaving, or bobbin lace-making is on the program of Craft Day, which takes place on Saturday at the open-air museum in Vysoký Chlumec in the Příbram region. In the cottages and barns, two dozen craftsmen will showcase their work. A new feature this year is soap-making, as reported by ČTK Stanislava Charvátová from the Mining Museum in Příbram, which manages the open-air museum.

Visitors will also see the construction of tiled stoves, the production of whistles, and weaving on a loom. They can admire the work of a carver of gingerbread molds or a collection of historical axes.

"In the open air, the meadow will be mowed and shingles will be split. Children will enjoy self-made honey gingerbread, and the scent of freshly baked bread will waft from the historic oven. After several years, demonstrations of working with clay plasters and turning on a pedal lathe will return to the program," said Charvátová.

Most of the buildings will be freely accessible, and there will be a functioning mill, sawmill, and blacksmith's shop. Throughout the day, it will be possible to purchase pottery from Milevsko and Vysoký Chlumec, wooden whistles, natural soaps, hand-knitted woolen socks, wooden bowls, mead, and other beekeeping products.

The open-air museum Vysoký Chlumec preserves valuable monuments of rural architecture, documenting the development of the traditional house from the mid-17th to the early 20th century in the region of Central Bohemian Highlands and the central Vltava region, in an area affected by stone mining. Residential, agricultural, technical, and small sacred structures endangered at their original site are gradually being relocated to the natural area in the valley of the stream. The interior exhibitions illustrate the way of life and farming in the village.

The Mining Museum in Příbram was established in 1886 and is the largest museum of its kind in the Czech Republic. It has more than 60 permanent exhibitions in historical buildings in Příbram and other branches.
