Blansko - In the autumn, Blansko will announce an architectural competition for the use of the dilapidated Hotel Dukla in the city center. The town hall bought it some time ago for 30.5 million crowns out of concern that it would become a hostel for socially inadequate individuals. However, the city now does not know how to further utilize it. Architects should advise whether to renovate the hotel, demolish it and build a new one, or leave the space with greenery. This was stated today by Blansko's mayor, Lubomír Toufar (ČSSD). "We hope to know by the end of the year how to deal with the hotel. We firmly believe that within the framework of the competition for the study, a developer will also contact us who would then want to realize the chosen project,” the mayor stated. He expects that the city will publish the individual proposals so that its residents can choose the most appealing one. The city's acquisition of the hotel was compelled by public pressure. Its original owner, the company Galaxie, went bankrupt. When it was announced that the hotel would go up for auction, there were speculations about entrepreneurs who wanted to buy Dukla and house socially disadvantaged families and homeless people from other cities in it. In the past, Hotel Dukla was the most luxurious accommodation facility in the city, housing numerous foreign visitors to the Moravian Karst. However, the building has been deteriorating since the 1990s. After its purchase, the city rented the hotel for 1.2 million crowns. It will operate as a budget accommodation, shops with cheap goods, offices, a bar, and a wine cellar, until the city decides its fate.
