Czech Brod knows the winner of the architectural competition for the transformation of two squares

Český Brod - Český Brod in the Kolín region knows the winner of the architectural competition for the transformation of Arnošt from Pardubice Square and Husova Square. The best design for the transformation of the dual square in the city’s heritage zone was prepared by the studio Atelier 111 architects, according to the jury. A total of 25 designs entered the competition, with five advancing to the second round. The city plans to present all of them to the public for the first time on June 25, thus it does not want to reveal details yet. Mayor Tomáš Klinecký (Lepší Brod) told ČTK today.

"We were very surprised by the number of submitted designs; most were of very high quality and had similar visions, differing in details. The winning design meets what we requested, which is the need to create a dignified public space in the city center that will be pleasant for spending time and provide space for various events,” said Klinecký. The area of both squares is approximately two hectares.

The two-round architectural competition was announced by the city last autumn. The authors of the top three designs will share a prize pool of 1.3 million crowns. The city will continue to negotiate with the competition winner and expects to conclude a contract. Previously estimated costs for transforming both squares are 130 million crowns excluding VAT. The city previously stated that it would apply for a European grant from the Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) program for the Prague metropolitan area. The reconstruction of the squares had been planned by the city's leadership earlier, but it did not occur due to a lack of funds.

People will be able to view the designs starting June 25 at the Šatlava Gallery in the building of the old town hall. "The public meeting will be combined with the opening of the exhibition of all the designs; additionally, we have included student works from students of architecture at ČVUT who were also involved in finding solutions,” said Klinecký.
