On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 5:00 PM, the second GoRo awards ceremony took place at the Prague 7 City Hall to honor the best architecture students and architectural studio. The jury, composed of Adam Gebrian, Michaela Janečková, and David Kraus, awarded student Maria Luu Orozco from Mexico and the architectural studio led by Michal Palaščák and Barbora Šimonová. The GoRo award is named after the late architect Martin Roubík, a prominent figure in the European architectural scene.
The GoRo award is presented twice a year in honor of architect Martin Roubík, who was one of the leading Czech architects and showcased Czech architecture beyond its borders. Martin Roubík was a non-conformist figure in Czech architectural academia, and his disagreement with the then-current state of architectural education led him to establish the Architectural Institute in Prague (ARCHIP) with his wife Regina Loukotová. Her co-founded Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta won an international competition and subsequently realized the new Library of Alexandria building in Egypt. This project has been recognized with the World Architecture Award among others.
The GoRo award is awarded to the student with the best project of the semester and the best studio of the semester. All projects are evaluated by the jury, which this semester included Adam Gebrian, Michaela Janečková, and David Kraus. A maximum of 8 projects can be nominated from each studio. The studio with the highest number of finalists subsequently becomes the best studio. An exhibition of all competition projects will be open to the public until June 8 at the Prague 7 Office building.
