Kroměříž - The Kroměříž town hall will present to the public the possible forms of the planned modifications to the Great Square. The proposals emerged from an architectural study. The city is primarily considering adding greenery, limiting parking, and widening sidewalks. Interested parties can view the proposals on several dozen visualizations on the city's website, as stated in today's press release by town hall spokesman Jan Vondrášek.

The city strives for the square to serve as a representative space for meetings of locals and tourists. "The city council commissioned the preparation of an architectural study, from which the proposals for possible changes emerged. They primarily include the addition of greenery, which should provide pleasant shade in the heated square, the limitation of parking to ensure safer movement for pedestrians, especially for children and seniors, as well as larger sidewalks to allow the expansion of outdoor restaurant seating. New electrical and water installations are also planned so that the Great Square can be a modern space for cultural and social events," the spokesman stated.

The Great Square is located in the historical center of Kroměříž, which is a city conservation area. "This is a change that should make the Great Square more attractive for citizens. At the same time, the area should be utilized as appropriately as possible. This is a change for decades, so we are, of course, interested in what the residents of Kroměříž think about it," said Mayor Tomáš Opatrný (ANO).

People can send their suggestions and comments via email to [email protected]. The city is also preparing a public discussion on the proposed changes to the Great Square. The estimated costs for the modifications to the square are in the tens of millions of crowns. According to previous statements from the mayor, however, its significant reconstruction will not be completed during this electoral term, which ends next year in the fall.
