The Olomouc Museum of Art is preparing an architectural competition for the Central European Forum project. The project proposal includes both the reconstruction of the existing museum building in the center of old Olomouc and an extension in the nearby gap, which has been selected by the Ministry of Culture among potential candidates for support from European funds within the Integrated Operational Program. The competition is expected to be announced in the fall of this year. The project proposal, officially named Olomouc Museum of Art – Central European Forum, involves the reconstruction of the museum's building and the addition of new functions that would be required by the extension of the Central European Forum. The new building, which is to be constructed in part on the land area of approximately 1800 m² adjacent to the museum, is another part of the project. "The Central European Forum could support various expressions of visual culture in the Central European region, build its permanent exhibitions, organize short-term exhibitions, or possibly larger medium-term displays such as biennales or triennales, and it would also include a new central repository of artworks and an international research center – a library, a multimedia center, and an archive," explained the conceptual idea by the director of the Olomouc Museum of Art, Pavel Zatloukal, adding that the SEF would focus on presenting the visual culture of Central European countries and the Visegrad area (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and Poland). Considering that MUO wants to intensively advance the concretization of the project proposal, it is already preparing an architectural competition, which will focus on the conceptual, architectural-urban solution for the reconstruction of the Olomouc Museum of Art and the extension of the Central European Forum. The museum will announce the competition through media, professional journals, and professional associations no later than November of this year.
