Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec nad Nisou plans to announce an open architectural competition for the restoration of Tyršovy Sady, in which city residents can also participate. On Wednesday, workers from the city architect's office will be collecting suggestions from people directly in the park. The goal of the restoration is also to increase safety in the park, which people often avoid today, said Jana Hamplová (Mayors for the Liberec Region), the deputy mayor, to ČTK today.

The city hall employees will collect suggestions on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00, allowing people to express their views on the current state of the park, what is good there, what should change, what they consider problematic, and what activities and events should take place in the park after renovations. "The implementation of the renovations should take place within two years, financial resources are allocated for this in ITI (Integrated Territorial Investment program for the Liberec - Jablonec agglomeration)," added Hamplová. The program has provisionally allocated 30 million crowns for the park's restoration.

"As part of the competition, we will address whether the park will be fenced or not, how it will open in relation to the Nisa River. There is also the option of connecting the gardens with the Nová Pasířská park so that the space is as airy and safe as possible, so that people learn to spend time there," Hamplová added.

Tyršovy Sady was founded by the Jablonec Beautification Society, which in 1884 purchased nearly two hectares of marshy land on the left bank of the Nisa River. The park was officially opened in July 1893, thus celebrating its 130th anniversary a few days ago. Gradually, small sculptures and memorial stones were added, and an artificial pond utilizing the natural groundwater source ended with a small dam and decorative railing. Water lilies and aquatic plants grew in the water, and in winter, people skated on the frozen surface. Near the pond, there was a gazebo for hosting outdoor concerts.

"The park underwent a significant but somewhat unfortunate reconstruction lacking taste and concept at the end of the 1970s. The result was concrete pathways with asphalt surfaces and a concrete pond that could not hold water," added city hall spokesperson Jana Fričová. Modifications primarily involving the addition of greenery and furniture took place in the park in 2001 and then from 2012 to 2014, when trees were maintained, and Tyršův park received new play elements for the children's playground, trash bins, benches, and later also new public lighting.

However, the area needs a fundamental revitalization; as early as 2011, the town hall applied for a grant for restoration from the Proměny Foundation but was unsuccessful. Jablonec applied again for a grant from the same fund three years later, but did not receive funding for the project worth 28 million crowns then either. Now it has a chance to obtain money from ITI, where, according to preliminary information, 2.8 billion crowns should be available for the agglomeration. The Jablonec city council approved a list of 21 projects totaling nearly 1.118 billion crowns, from which it wants to draw funds from the program.
