Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec nad Nisou announced an open landscape-architecture competition for the design of the revitalization of Tyršovy sady. The area in question is divided into a project and an ideological part, with the project part concerning the territory of Tyršovy sady itself, and the ideological part concerning the adjacent area of Nová Pasířská park, streets, and spaces surrounding Tyršovy sady, as well as a possible connection between the park and the city center, said the city hall spokesperson Jana Fričová today. The city estimates the cost of restoring the park to be 60 million crowns.
"In a broader context, we consider Tyršovy sady to be one of the important park spaces connected to the river Nisa, which we understand as the natural axis of the city. Therefore, we are also counting on a continuous cycling route, the course of which must respect the existing mature trees in the park. The brief emphasizes the involvement of the river into the park, the management of rainwater, and allows for the investigation of the return of a water feature. Other proposed elements should include a small facility with restrooms and support for events," added the deputy mayor for development Jakub Chuchlík (Pirates).
Tyršovy sady was founded by the Jablonec Beautification Society, which purchased nearly two hectares of marshy land on the left bank of the Nisa River in 1884. The park was officially opened in July 1893, celebrating its 130th anniversary a few weeks ago. Gradually, small sculptures and memorial stones were added, and a natural source of groundwater was utilized in an artificial pond capped with a small dam and decorative railing. Lilies and aquatic plants grew in the water, and in winter, people would skate on its frozen surface. Near the pond, there was a gazebo for holding outdoor concerts.
"The park underwent a large, but somewhat unfortunate reconstruction without taste or concept in the late 1970s. The result was concrete paths with an asphalt surface and a concreted pond that could not hold water," stated Fričová. Adjustments focusing mainly on the addition of greenery and furniture took place in Tyršovy sady in 2001 and then from 2012 to 2014, during which trees were tended, new play elements were added to the children's playground, as well as bins and benches, and later also new public lighting.
However, the space needs a fundamental revitalization. As early as 2011, the city hall applied for a grant for restoration from the Transformation Foundation, but unsuccessfully. Jablonec applied for a grant from the same fund three years later, but did not receive the grant for the project worth 28 million crowns at that time either. Now there is a chance to obtain funds from ITI, where preliminary information suggests that 2.8 billion crowns should be available for the agglomeration. The Jablonec city council approved a list of 21 projects totaling nearly 1.118 billion crowns, from which it wants to draw funds from the program, with Tyršovy sady being one of the largest.
The deadline for submitting proposals is October 31, information about the competition is available on the pages of Czech Chamber of Architects and on the city profile.
