Odry - The city of Odry in the Nový Jičín region wants to remodel Masaryk Square as its main representative and recreational public space. Therefore, it has announced an architectural-urban competition for the design of the revitalization of the square and its immediate surroundings. The future appearance should provide an inspiring space for the current needs of the city so that the square is attractive to residents and visitors. This was reported today by the spokesperson of the Odry town hall, Lucie Kaspříková.

"The purpose and mission of the competition is to find and reward the most suitable solution and then negotiate with its author about the assignment of the subsequent contract," said the spokesperson.

Architects must respect that the square is located in the center of the urban heritage zone in their designs. They must account for the fountain from 1897, the Marian column, a well, a bus stop, and the fact that a busy road runs through the square.

"They should create places for citizens to meet and to rest, solve transport accessibility and parking so that traffic is calmed, areas for parking are cultivated and reduced, and pedestrian movement is prioritized," Kaspříková added.

Architects must submit their designs by July 12. The jury will evaluate the proposals at the beginning of September, and on September 18, the Odry councilors should decide on the outcome of the competition. More information is available on the city's website. The city will award the first prize in the competition with 300,000 crowns, and a total of 700,000 crowns has been allocated for prizes and rewards. After the competition concludes, the city will also make the proposals available on its website.
