The subject of the competition was to develop an architectural-urban and landscape design proposal for the space named Park on Moravian Square in Brno. The goal was to revitalize the designated area of the urban park, which has been in a long-term state of neglect. The park should primarily serve as a recreational and relaxation area for the city's residents.

1st prize - Amount 350,000 CZK Authors: consequence forma s.r.o. / Ing. arch. MArch. Jana Šipulová, Ing. arch. Martin Sládek, Ing. arch. Václav Navrátil Cooperation: Ing. arch. Petra Buganská, Bc. Barbora Kudelová, Moare Jury evaluation: The proposal emphasizes Moravian Square as a meeting place and a typical park area. The authors correctly name and accentuate the busiest pedestrian route leading from the mouth of Joštova Street towards Lidická Street in a natural trajectory, which is tangent to the central paved area. This easily provides accessibility to the program axis, which besides a paved multifunctional area with a water feature also includes a gravel area with a children's playground and is terminated by a low café structure at the northern edge of the square. The proposed solution preserves the permeability of the area, accentuates the main entrance to the park from Joštova Street as well as the main pedestrian route, which is newly complemented by a circular path that accesses the previously unused peripheral parts of the park and creates new resting spots. The design largely preserves and respects the existing mature trees. Jury recommendations: The wall adjoining the café as a shielding from the busy Koliště street creates an unreasonable barrier. The jury recommends reconsidering this element and addressing the shielding more transparently. The entrance points to the park from Joštova and Lidická should be modified and simplified in terms of materials. In the next stage, increased attention will need to be paid to the technical execution of the water feature under the trees.
2nd prize - amount 200,000 CZK Authors: Ing. Klára Zahradníčková, M.A., Ing. arch. Jakub Kopec Cooperation: Luboš Zbranek Jury evaluation: The proposal reintroduces a type of urban space to the Czech scene that has proven itself in the past but is almost forgotten today. This space is neither a park in the traditional sense nor a clear corset tied by a stone square. By freeing the lower ground, which becomes accessible to all, through visual permeability and elevating the trees to the main spatial element, this design stands out from the others. The author creates an open space and does not attempt to delineate specific places for various activities. The design leaves room for modifications, allows for staging and careful handling of the considered costs. Jury recommendations: Consider the suitability of the proposed surface in the main pedestrian routes as well as in the peripheral zones, especially for visitors with limited mobility. In the early stages of the project, before there is a connection or overlap of tree crowns, it is advisable to offer an alternative surface to gravel, for example in the form of islands of lawn. Retaining the fountain in its current form is economical, but formally unsatisfactory. The design would benefit from greater inventiveness in handling water. This proposal has the potential to become a civic forum, the form of which is primarily dictated by the user and no one else. In terms of implementation, there are certain doubts about changes in the terrain levels around the existing mature trees. Despite these remarks, it is precisely the flexibility of the proposal that guarantees that in further possible developments, the integrity of the concept will be preserved, despite the inevitable revision of some overly generalizing aspects of the proposals.
3rd prize - 100,000 CZK Authors: prof. Ing. arch. Zdeněk Fránek, Bc. Pavel Čučka, Bc. Radek Feňo, Bc. Adam Ambrus Cooperation: Bc. et Ing. Tomáš Babka Jury evaluation: The authors preserve the quality of the existing greenery and complement it with an open-air amphitheater, which they call the Theatre of Life. In the middle of the amphitheater is a water area that can be used in both summer and winter. The jury appreciated the strength of the simplicity of the concept, which provides further possibilities for development. The question remains how the proposed solution will reflect possible archaeological findings at the site of the foundations of the German House.
