The park at Moravské náměstí in Brno has opened to the public

Brno – The park on Brno's Moravian Square, which has been inaccessible to the public since March due to extensive renovations, is now reopened. The work, costing 132.5 million Czech crowns, included the construction of technology for rainwater capture, revitalization of green areas, new plantings, a new fountain, children's play elements, and the construction of a café. The work on the café will be completed by the end of this year, said Vojtěch Mencl, the mayor of the Brno-střed district, to ČTK.

"We will announce the tender for the operator after the inspection so that they can see the completed areas. At the same time, we want the café operator to commit to lending sun loungers and, for example, picnic baskets to park visitors. We expect that the café should be in operation no later than March," Mencl stated.

In the center of the park, just like in the past, there is a large fountain. However, the deep outdated basin has been replaced by a shallow ring at sidewalk level with a diameter of 30 meters, which will be completely filled with water. Jets are positioned around the basin, which will create a water mist with the possibility of colored lighting. In the center of the fountain, there are five directional jets. Benches with varying backrest angles provide seating around the fountain.

The green areas will be protected by a low fence until spring, one meadow will be sown in spring, and construction of a Ferris wheel will begin on it now. The park has added 77 new trees, 68 shrubs, 36,000 perennial seedlings, and a further 67,000 flower seedlings will be added in the spring. New features include play elements and a sandbox for children, as well as a circular path intended for families with children and strollers.

The revitalization also included the remediation and securing of the underground spaces of the former German House about two meters below the surface. Near the café, hidden under a wooden stage, is a wide staircase leading to four vaulted spaces. "The spaces are not yet approved; the electrical installation also needs to be completed. The future of these spaces is under discussion. Consideration is being given to their accessibility during special tours, or possibly hosting smaller cultural events," said Kateřina Dobešová, spokesperson for the Brno-střed district.

The costs of the park's revitalization reached 132.5 million Czech crowns, of which Brno contributed 95.5 million and the district 37 million crowns. The district also paid approximately ten million for preparatory and project work. The new design of the square was proposed by the company Consequence forma architects.
