After an intense discussion among the expert jury composed of specialists in architecture, landscape, healthcare, and social care, we selected five teams from 48 registered architect teams on Thursday, October 14, to start planning the new design of the Cibulka estate. They will work out the details according to the brief, which specifically defines the future use of the entire complex.
The jurors first independently studied all 48 portfolios carefully and then discussed, evaluated, and selected this final quintet in alphabetical order during a meeting of all jury members: A1 Architects in collaboration with AED project Atelier KAVA ORA OV Architekti Petr Hájek Architekti “It was not an easy decision at all, as all 48 teams submitted very high-quality materials. We greatly value their work. We thank the experts from the jury for their excellent cooperation, highly professional discussion, and approach in evaluating the portfolios,” says Ivana Plechatá, director of the Vlčkových Family Foundation, who is also a jury member.
The selected teams are starting to work on designs, from which, through a gradual process, one will emerge according to which the reconstruction of the entire complex will be realized. The winning project is expected to be announced by February 2022 at the latest.
This is not only about saving a historical monument but also about adapting the entire area to meet all requirements for the operation of a top-notch healthcare facility with inpatient and outpatient services for children with severe illnesses, who are at high risk of not reaching adulthood. The center will be equipped not only to support sick children but also their nearest ones. Some buildings will also serve the public. Among other things, educational, social, and cultural programs naturally connecting the surrounding community and families of sick children, who often live in great social isolation, will take place in part of the area. The jury for the competition workshop, which will evaluate all five proposals, is composed of five independent members and three representatives of the Vlčkových Family Foundation. The jury includes these experts: architect Roman Brychta, architect Petr Stolín, landscape architect Markéta Veličková, chief physician of the pediatric support team, pediatrician and pediatric oncologist Lucie Hrdličková from the Clinic of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology of 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and Motol University Hospital, Matěj Lejsal, director of Sue Ryder Home, director of the Vlčkových Family Foundation Ivana Plechatá, and founders of the Vlčkových Family Foundation Katarína and Ondřej Vlček. The introductory photo captured the jury after about four hours of joint deliberation and reflection on the final selection.
