Ústí nad Labem - The form of the permanent exhibition of Czech-German relations for the new museum building in Ústí nad Labem will be selected by a jury from 30 proposals. Architects submitted them to the Collegium Bohemicum association by the end of February, which is preparing the exhibition. Five selected proposals will be further developed by the architects, and the winner, who will receive 250,000 crowns, will be announced on June 30. Veronika Dudková, spokesperson for the Collegium Bohemicum, said this to ČTK today.
The planned exhibition should not deal with Czech-German relations in general, but rather the history of coexistence of Czech and German-speaking populations in the territory of today's Czech Republic. It is not yet clear who has applied for the competition. Milan Rudík from the Collegium Bohemicum told ČTK in December that a candidate from Germany had also applied.
"In the first round, the competition is anonymous. We will only know the specific authors after the announcement of the results of the second round," Dudková said. A jury composed of architects and members of the Collegium Bohemicum will decide by March 11 who will proceed to the next round, after which five authors of the selected proposals will be invited to further develop their ideas.
According to Dudková, the architects will receive specifications for a specific room for the second round, and they will also be submitting estimates of the costs of implementing the exhibition, which they did not have to do in the first round. "The deadline for submitting proposals in the second round is May 30," she added.
The jury will have time until June 17 to evaluate the proposals from the second round, and the winner will be announced by the association on June 30. "We expect that on the occasion of the grand opening of the reconstructed museum building in Ústí nad Labem on June 30, all proposals will be exhibited," Dudková added. The exhibition itself is set to open to the public in the summer of 2012.
Collegium Bohemicum will be located in an area of 1,500 square meters on two floors of the building at Lidické náměstí. "Due to the limits imposed by the building of the former school, although it is representative, the visual appeal will primarily depend on the architectural design of the exhibition," said the director of the association, Blanka Mouralová, earlier.
Collegium Bohemicum is a non-profit cultural-educational and scientific society that deals with Czech-German relations and the cultural heritage of German-speaking inhabitants of the Czech lands. It organizes and supports cultural events, holds seminars and lectures, promotes research projects, awards scholarships, and organizes educational projects.
