Prague - The Directorate of Roads and Motorways (ŘSD) will announce an international architectural competition for the design of a bridge that will cross the Vltava River in Suchdol as part of the planned northern section of the Prague Ring Road by the end of the year. This was announced today in a press release by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Transport, Filip Medelský. The northern section of the ring road is currently in the process of evaluating the environmental impact assessment (EIA). Closer to commencement is the southeastern section between Běchovice and D1, which ŘSD intends to start building next year.

"The planned Suchdol highway bridge will be one of the landmarks of the northern section of the Prague Ring Road. Therefore, we decided to take a transparent architectural competition route for its preparation, resulting in an engineering and architecturally valuable structure," said Minister of Transport Martin Kupka (ODS). He added that he would explore the possibility of announcing competitions for other planned bridges on the ring road as well.

The northern section of the ring road will run from Ruzyně through Suchdol, Březiněves to Černý Most. ŘSD is currently completing documentation to submit a request for the EIA statement, and according to information from the Ministry, the assessment should begin in the summer, with a public discussion scheduled for the fall. The goal is to obtain the EIA statement by the end of this year, added Medelský.

The Minister of Transport is also in talks with the capital city and the Prague city districts that will be affected by the construction of the transport artery. "The joint meetings with the city districts that I initiated upon taking office are constructive, and we are managing to address the main issues. I am in contact with Prague and our investment organizations, and we are resolving all issues as they arise," he stated.

Once completed, the outer ring road around Prague will measure about 83 kilometers, with roughly half of it currently in operation. Next year, ŘSD plans to begin construction of the section between Běchovice and D1, referred to as section 511, which will be 12.6 kilometers long. The territorial decision for it was issued in mid-2020 by the building authority of Prague 22, and last June, it was confirmed by the South Bohemian Regional Office after addressing objections that the Prague Magistrate was biased in its decision-making. By the end of this year, ŘSD aims to obtain a building permit.
