Slaný - Slaný will announce an architectural competition in the coming months for the construction of a new district in the west of the city. This is its largest area designated for development. It has a working title of New Dolíky. According to estimates, the district could gradually arise over the next 20 years and accommodate more than 2000 people, said CTK spokesperson for the Slaný town hall, Veronika Nováková.
"The aim of the competition is to create a quality space that seamlessly integrates into the existing development and complements it appropriately. A new home for additional residents will be created here, as well as a natural center for shops, education, and services," stated the mayor of Slaný, Martin Hrabánek (ODS).
The city has good transport connections to Prague and anticipates an increase in the population in the future. Currently, it has about 16,000 residents. The city leadership aims to coordinate construction with officials and city architects and have a clear vision for investors. The land where the new district will be built predominantly belongs to the city. It lies between the Military Barracks and the Na Dolíkách housing estate, thereby connecting the two estates. The city and existing documentation have been considering construction development on the allocated lands for several decades.
The district proposals will be prepared jointly by architects, landscape architects, and city engineers who wish to participate in the competition. According to the spokesperson, a professional jury will select the most suitable team. Then urban planners will develop proposals for the possible layout of the buildings, and the best one will again be chosen by a professional jury.
The city collaborates with experts on the form of the competition assignment. "We place great emphasis on careful coordination of the entire city development process. From the very first steps, we collaborate with numerous experts in urban planning, economics, and citizen participation to create a quality assignment," added the city development manager, Magdalena Stýblová. The assignment will define parameters for a new school building, greenery, energy sustainability, parking, and public squares, for example.
The city wants to have as much influence as possible on the future form of the area and the quality of public spaces; therefore, it will build the streets and squares itself.
