Prague – The absolute winner of the seventh year of the Interior of the Year competition was today the Mezonet 69 in Prague. The award was given for last year. The author of the winning interior, which competed in the reconstruction category, is the studio No Architects. Along with other awards, the organizers presented their members with accolades at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art.
"The number 69 permeates the entire interior. However, it does not only represent the famous sexual position, which by the way was not the direct inspiration for the design of this space – that was a painting. The number 69 is also a numerical expression of yin and yang and a symbol of stability or harmony," the creators of the winning interior explain.
The international jury particularly appreciated the "refined concept of a modest and uncluttered interior, which has a very anti-stress effect." They highlighted the play with colors, the connotations to the shapes of the First Republic, and the understanding of the genius loci. They also emphasized the sensitivity in incorporating artworks, excellent craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
In addition to the reconstruction category, there are also new building, public interior, and interior of the year categories. This year, public voting was added to the journalists' voting, and another new category is private interior – low-cost housing. The largest number of interiors, 45, is represented in the new building category. Among the new buildings, the Weekend House in Bukovany by the studio Senaa Architekti won, and among low-cost housing, the jury selected House for a native of Šaľa by the studio ORA-Architekti as the best.
