Vrchlabí - The Administration of the Krkonošsko National Park (KRNAP) will announce a new competition for a company that will repair the Krkonoš museum in Vrchlabí. In the first tender, no one was selected because the four companies that applied did not meet the conditions by significantly exceeding the price. Jakub Kašpar, the deputy director of the KRNAP Administration, told ČTK today. The museum, which is located in a former Augustinian monastery and belongs to the KRNAP Administration, has been closed since autumn 2017. The selected company should ensure the construction part of the project.
"The estimated price for the construction part is 65 million crowns excluding VAT, and the bids exceeded the 100 million threshold. We would like to announce a new competition as soon as possible," Kašpar told ČTK. According to him, the problems in selecting a contractor are due to the situation in the construction market. "We still expect to implement the project. We hope to successfully select a company," he added.
According to Kašpar, the European grant for the project is not at risk. KRNAP wanted to have a selected contractor for the construction part by the end of last year and to start construction work this spring.
KRNAP counts on European grants of 123 million crowns for the project. The total costs for the reconstruction of the building and the creation of a new exhibition will be 140 to 150 million crowns. The building is currently empty, and by the end of 2021, a visitor center for KRNAP should be created after the transformation of the exhibitions.
The renovated museum with a new exhibition, which will build on the successful exhibition "Stone and Life," should serve visitors as a representative gateway to the Krkonoš. The visitor center should provide information about the past and present of the Krkonoš in the clearest possible way and motivate people to explore the mountains and protect them. It is also expected to take on the role of a traditional museum.
The new interactive exhibition should be a story of nature and people settled in the mountains. The exhibition will have several levels, and it will be up to the visitor how deeply they want to study the information offered. The center will also offer opportunities for organizing concerts, festivals, theater performances, or lectures in the open air. Plans include building a new entrance to the building, the creation of a research room, or a café.
