Prague/Roudnice n. L. – The state will spend up to four million crowns on an architectural competition for the design of the future hub for the high-speed railway to Dresden in Roudnice nad Labem, in the Litoměřice region. This is stated in the public procurement bulletin. The Railway Administration, which announced the competition, stated in a press release today that it wants to present the winning design at the beginning of next year. According to a feasibility study, the costs for the entire construction of the high-speed line from Prague to Ústí nad Labem to Dresden will amount to approximately 142.7 billion crowns in the Czech territory. The first phase, which includes the Roudnice hub, is expected to cost around 54 billion.

The future terminal is part of the planned section of the high-speed rail line VRT Podřipsko and is expected to be located near the existing Roudnice nad Labem airport, according to earlier information. According to the Railway Administration, this section is to be constructed between 2027 and 2030. Passengers are expected to reach the center of Prague from the terminal in about 20 minutes. The transfer terminal in Roudnice will provide passengers with not only a fast train connection on the Prague - Dresden route but also a parking lot for 3,000 cars, platforms for buses of the Ústí and Central Bohemian integrated transport, and a connection to the nearby D8 motorway.

In the now-announced competition for the design of the terminal, the author of the winning architectural-urban proposal will receive two million crowns, according to information from the procurement bulletin. The author of the second-place proposal will receive 750,000 crowns, and the author of the third-best proposal will receive half a million. Another three-quarters of a million crowns will be distributed among the competition participants whose proposals were not awarded but provided some useful insights.

The proposal should also show the possibilities in the area surrounding the terminal. "Experience from abroad shows that the areas around terminals on the outskirts of cities can experience rapid development in the coming years if there is quality infrastructural connectivity," the administration stated. The development of areas around the terminal will be up to local governments, but the Railway Administration will maintain regular contact with them.
