Sokolov - The Ministry of Finance has announced a public tender this week for the demolition and construction of a new Krejcar Bridge in Sokolov. The pedestrian bridge over the Ohře River, which connects the Old Square with the recreational area of Jižní lom, has been in very poor technical condition for a long time. The construction of the new bridge is expected to cost around 50 million crowns, with the winner likely to be selected in November. This information comes from the public procurement bulletin.
"The company for the construction of the bridge itself will be chosen by the Ministry of Finance, as the funds for the construction will come from resources for mitigating the effects of mining. The city will ensure the construction of public lighting and a camera system," said Sokolov's mayor Jan Picka (CSSD) today to ČTK.
The new bridge is expected to be completely different from the current one. The dilapidated structure will be replaced by a cable bridge, suspended on steel cables. In some parts, it will be up to six meters wide, which is nearly three times the current width. The new bridge will be comfortable for both pedestrians and families with strollers, as well as for cyclists.
The residents of Sokolov make extensive use of the Krejcar Bridge, especially after the revitalization of part of Jižní lom. However, its technical condition has been a long-term concern for the city. The city has had a project for reconstruction ready for several years, but initially, the construction costs were estimated to reach 80 million crowns. By revising the project, the costs have been reduced to approximately 40 to 50 million crowns. The construction itself is expected to begin in 2019.
