Valašské Meziříčí – Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region is preparing an urban planning and architectural competition for the Křižanovy sawmill area and the adjacent city lands. The city owns land in the area covering 27,000 square meters and another 11,500 square meters in front of the railway station and the former siding, spokesperson for the city hall Jakub Mikuš informed ČTK today.

"This is a very valuable area, and we want to collaborate with experts on its utilization. That's also why we decided to take the path of an ideational urban planning and architectural competition, which will guide us on how to appropriately use the city lands," stated Mayor Robert Stržínek (ANO).

"We already know that we want to place a bus transport terminal here, a new city hall building, the alley of Emilie and Jan Křižan, and we also consider a space for the construction of residential buildings. All of this must be taken into account and effectively incorporated by the architects participating in the competition into the area of the city lands. We will place a strong emphasis on meaningful and purposeful integration of all types of transport and a significant share of greenery in the addressed location," the mayor added. The city hall is also considering the possibility of placing a skatepark in the area of the former siding.

"We will now consult the competition conditions with the Czech Chamber of Architects, which oversees the entire competition. In September, we would like to present them for approval to the councilors, with the aim of accepting competition proposals until mid-November, which will then be evaluated by a professional jury. The winner should then prepare a detailed land study," stated Lucie Rapantová from the legal department of the city hall.
