In Old Boleslav, a new school is set to be established; the city will announce a competition

Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav - Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav plans to build a new school in Stará Boleslav for approximately 1,000 children. The city aims to announce an architectural competition by February at the latest and then begin project preparations. Initially, the city wanted to establish a municipal union, and the school was to be a union school. However, the new city leadership does not insist on this. The school could be opened in the autumn of 2026, said Kateřina Stránská from the city to ČTK.

"The capacity of elementary schools in Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav has long been at its limit. We must address the situation immediately, especially considering the newly developing city districts. There is already a risk of not accommodating all children in elementary schools," said Mayor Robert Pecha (You are the city). According to him, project work could begin in August, with construction starting in the summer of 2025.

The city plans to apply for a grant from the Ministry of Education's Ring II program for the school, which is to be built on municipal land in Třebízského Street. The previous city leadership sought to establish a municipal union to facilitate the school’s construction. "Primarily, we will build upon the discussions of the previous city leadership with surrounding municipalities regarding the establishment of a union. If no agreement is reached within a reasonable timeframe, the city will build even without a union," Stránská stated.

A new union school for 810 students is also planned to be built in the next two to three years in Český Brod and Doubravčice in the Kolín region. The school for the Českobrodsko area is one of six in the Central Bohemia Region for which the Ministry of Education will announce a call for applications for funding. In the autumn, the government increased the subsidy for each student place from 800,000 crowns to 1.1 million crowns.

The urban area of Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav has nearly 19,000 residents.
