Vyšší Brod - Vyšší Brod in the Český Krumlov region will announce an architectural international competition for the design of a spa complex in the area of the former lung sanatorium in Hrudkov. Architects from around the world can propose concepts and visions for the designated area. The town hall of Vyšší Brod informed about this in a press release. The city acquired the Hrudkov sanatorium site from the South Bohemia Region last year.

"Hrudkov is a strategic project that can significantly influence the future of Vyšší Brod. After years of neglecting the site, things are finally moving," said the mayor of Vyšší Brod, Jindřich Hanzlíček (Perspective).

The city plans to build a new residential district in Hrudkov. This will also include a spa with a capacity of approximately 250 beds, gastronomic services, medical and rehabilitation facilities, relaxation and social spaces, and appropriate technical background. The architectural competition proposals will also address the adjustments of public spaces, landscape integration, and the connection of the site with the town, the Vltava River, and recreational infrastructure.

The town hall has started the reconstruction of the first six apartments in Hrudkov, which people could start using from June. Vyšší Brod will invest four million crowns into the renovation of the first part of the former sanatorium. "The financing of the first phases is ensured by the city from its own resources; in the future, it plans to use grant programs, especially for the reconstruction of apartment buildings," said the mayor.

The area of the former Hrudkov lung sanatorium spans 13 hectares near Vyšší Brod. The sanatorium focused on the treatment of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases and belonged to the then Regional Institute of Public Health from 1964. The České Budějovice hospital, which the sanatorium was part of until last year, moved its operations to its premises in České Budějovice in 2005. Since then, Hrudkov has been abandoned.

"Hrudkov is a life challenge for me. We want to move our city forward significantly. In ten years, I hope that people will say that it was a step in the right direction and that they are proud to have it," stated the deputy mayor of Vyšší Brod, Jaroslav Marek.
