After a year, you once again have the opportunity to visit newly completed modern wooden buildings in the vicinity of Prague. Make your first October weekend a trip and visit brand new wooden constructions, which are made accessible to the public for two days on the occasion of the 2nd year of the Wooden Open Days event.

Have the houses from the Wooden Building Salon caught your attention? Are you considering your own modern wooden building? Or do you simply want to learn more about wooden houses? Thanks to the kindness of satisfied owners and the efforts of architectural firms, it has been possible to open several newly completed wooden buildings around the capital city again this year. On the weekend of October 3rd and 4th, you have a unique opportunity to see these wooden buildings in person and speak directly with their architects.

The Wooden Open Days are part of the year-round project Wooden Building Salon, the largest Czech exhibition of wooden building architecture. Throughout the year, alongside the open days, you can also visit exhibitions, lectures by domestic and foreign architects, or film screenings as part of the Wooden Building Salon.

The event takes place as part of the international architecture festival Architecture Week 2009, which will be held from September 21st to October 4th, 2009.

Event Date for DDOD: October 3rd - 4th, 2009

You can visit the wooden buildings both days from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

During the Wooden Open Days, you can visit the following buildings:

RD Domesi Radlík

This compact family house with a square floor plan is topped with a sloping roof. The entrance is from the eastern side into a vestibule, from which there is access to the technical room and hallway. From there, you can access the living room with kitchen and dining area. The living room opens directly to the garden and terrace, which is sheltered by the overhang of the roof and walls. On the first floor, there is a bathroom, study, bedroom, and guest room. The house is designed to take full advantage of the view while ensuring sufficient privacy for the owners. This is achieved through shading devices mounted directly on the facade.

RD Domesi – on the eastern edge of Prague

This atypical low-energy villa immediately stands out from the outside with its rather massive upper floor element, which naturally shades the subtle glazed ground floor with its overhangs. The ground floor is maximally opened to the southwest side, with large windows leading to the garden. Conversely, from the northeast, the house is more closed off. A significant feature in the interior is the open gallery above the dining area, which spans from the ground floor up to the first floor. The material used on the facade is inspired by the tradition of functionalist buildings in the area. The upper part of the house is covered with white plaster, which emphasizes the top volume of the house. Conversely, on the ground floor, alongside large glazed areas, wooden cladding from boards has been used, which resonates with the wooden terraces and, together with the protruding walls, "anchors" the house to the ground.
