The Dancing House Gallery, in collaboration with the Prague Real Estate Administration, will open a new exhibition titled JKOK on November 8, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the birth of the significant Czech architect and visionary Jan Kaplický. From November to March, the exhibition will showcase the best of Kaplický’s lifelong work, along with some previously unexhibited items and projects from the archives of his estate. The retrospective exhibition is being realized by architect Eva Jiřičná in collaboration with AI-DESIGN studio and the KAPLICKY CENTRE foundation. The exhibition is under the patronage of the Mayor of Prague, Adriana Krnáčová.
“Jan Kaplický was an architect, designer, artist. His work provides testimony to the present, with an extraordinary openness to his vision of the future,” says the exhibition's guarantor, Ing. arch. Eva Jiřičná.
“The exhibition will show Jan Kaplický as an unconventional visionary, but also as a jewelry, crockery, and fashion designer, an environmentally responsible architect, and a healthy patriot. Visitors will be able to peek under the lid of his original creative process and walk through the various creative phases,” says the curator of the exhibition, Ladislav Zikmund-Lender.
The exhibition of Jan Kaplický will be divided into three thematic sections. The first part will remind visitors of the author's iconic works and designs, such as the model of the National Library known as the Blob or the Octopus. The second part in the lower ground floor will present the architect's roots, his parents—significant artists—and show Kaplický's sources of inspiration. The third section will deal with the creative realization process of the architect and its individual phases, showcasing visionary moments in Kaplický's work. Designs of futuristic means of transport, including spaceships, will also be exhibited. “We decided to realize the JKOK exhibition on the occasion of Jan Kaplický's significant anniversary. In 2017, this exceptional Czech architect would have celebrated his 80th birthday,” adds Robert Vůjtek, director of the Dancing House Gallery.
The most anticipated part of the exhibition in the Dancing House will be the previously unexhibited projects and designs loaned from the KAPLICKY CENTRE foundation. JKOK is being realized by architect Eva Jiřičná with the creative team of AI-DESIGN studio and the KAPLICKY CENTRE foundation. The exhibition is under the patronage of the Mayor of Prague, Adriana Krnáčová.
The JKOK exhibition will be open at the Dancing House Gallery from November 8, 2016, to March 12, 2017, every day from 09:00 to 20:00.
